OCEAN TRIGGERFISH

Canthidermis sufflamen

English: Lookdown, Moonfish, Atlantic Lookdown, Bluntnose
Spanish: Jorabado..

Triggerfish are reef fish.  There name is derived from the fact that they have "triggers" which is the forward dorsal spine.  No amount of pressure will force it back down, but a slight push on the shorter second spine will make the "trigger" fold instantly.  Most times this species are caught when anglers are targeting other species such as snappers and groupers.

On average the Ocean Triggerfish is the largest of the triggers averaging 4 to 6lbs but sometimes as much as 10lbs.

All of the triggerfish can be considered excellent fighters on light tackle.   However they are usually difficult to hook.
